The convenience of instant heat and costs comparable with electric alternatives has seen an increase in inclusion of gas appliances for heating, cooking and hot water in new build homes over recent years. With that in mind it is vital that all gas appliances are installed by Gas Safe engineers, for both safety and legal reasons.
12th - 18th September 2011 is the first ever Gas Safety week, where the Gas Safety Register hope to increase awareness of Gas Safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances.
Here are CRL's top tips for Gas Safety
Top Tips for builders developers.
1. Make sure all appliance installations are carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers
2. Ensure all gas pipes are of the correct size for the appliances installed.
3. Ensure all flues are in the correct place and are compatible with the installed appliance, and not moved after installation.
4. Ensure all relevant operation and maintenance manuals are provided to the purchaser and handover.
Top Tips for New Home Buyers
1. If your new home has gas cooking, heating or hot water, make sure it comes with a Gas Safe Certificate
2. Ensure all your gas appliances have an annual gas safety check.
3. Make sure only Gas Safe registered engineers work on your appliances, (make sure to check their Gas Safe ID card)
