Hull-based Humber Galvanizing, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has provided its specialist hot dip galvanizing treatment to 20 tonnes of steelwork currently being used to build the new Grimsby Seafood Village.

Fabrication firm Alliance Steel Services has used the steel on initial structural work at the £3 million centre, which will be located on a four-acre site off Wickham Road, near to the town's famous fish docks. Once the first phase of construction is complete, the Grimsby Seafood Village will comprise 20 self-contained units, each with 2,000 sq ft floor space and a similar amount of office space. Companies based at the centre will share cold stores, waste collection facilities, and other fish processing equipment, ensuring the new complex will meet strict environmental and health and safety regulations.

Tony Linsley, Commercial Manager of Humber Galvanizing, said: "The Seafood Village will be a real boost for the fish processing sector, not only in Grimsby, but also across the wider region, so it is fantastic that we've been able to play our part in the initial construction work."

"Having the steel galvanized will ensure the metalwork is protected against rust, which is obviously a major issue with this particular location and industry, with the amount of highly-corrosive sea water involved," Nigel Rushby, of Alliance Steel Services, commented. "The team at Humber Galvanizing provided us with a prompt and professional turnaround, enabling us to make excellent progress with our part of the project."

Wedge Group Galvanizing is the largest hot dip galvanizing organisation in the UK with a history dating back over 150 years. With 14 plants strategically placed across the country, they offer a truly national galvanizing service.
