ISG Jackson Delivers New Dartford Visitor Centre

ISG Jackson has successfully completed a high profile £670K community project for Dartford Borough Council in the town's Central Park. The new visitor centre is already proving a highly popular addition to the range of facilities at the park and forms part of the council's wider programme of public realm investment to create a vibrant and attractive destination for the local community and wider population.

The attractive single-storey visitor centre building has been designed to complement its surroundings and incorporates a café, called the Café in the Park, and external seating area, as well as new toilets and changing facilities. The structure also plays an important role in the overall management of the 26 acre park, housing the park manager's office as well as staff welfare and storage facilities.

The proximity of the River Darent has influenced the design of the visitor centre, which was constructed on piled foundations and is raised approximately one metre from ground level to minimise the risk of damage from potential flooding events. The deliberate and careful selection of architectural finishes for the centre's construction, which include timber look cladding, slate roof tiles and extensive timber decked areas, ensures that the building does not dominate its picturesque surroundings.

Stuart Talbot, divisional director of ISG Jackson, commented: "We have been delighted with the immediate and overwhelmingly positive response to the new visitor centre at Central Park. The investment in public space is really paying dividends in terms of increased visitor numbers and the building has already become a focal point and a welcome addition to the overall range of facilities at the park."
