ISG has commenced work on a £4 million regeneration project with Kitewood to build a 42 unit housing scheme in Brixton, South London. Occupying the site of a former factory building, the development of mews and three-storey stacked maisonette properties, designed by Inglis Badrashi Loddo Architects (IBLA), has already been shortlisted for the prestigious Housing Design Awards 2011.

The new mixed-tenure homes range in size from one to three bed configurations and will be built using a Thin Joint Masonry construction technique to improve their overall thermal performance. The development, which is set to achieve a Code for Sustainable Homes level three rating, incorporates roof mounted photovoltaic cells contributing a minimum 10 per cent output of renewable energy.
The bold design of the housing development is a modern interpretation of the surrounding built environment in Brixton, with façade elements including red coloured render and extensive use of timber cladding. At one end of the site, homes overlook a green space, which will be used as a children's play area, and ISG will also form a large crescent-shaped secure bicycle storage facility, further highlighting the sustainable credentials of the development. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2012.
