The new sixth form centre will be constructed on Ednam Road and delivered in a fast-track 41-week programme that will enable it to open its doors to students for the beginning of the new academic year in September 2012. Students attending Dudley Sixth will also have access to a gym, sport facilities, theatre and other facilities housed within a new campus area being developed in the centre of the town called the Dudley Learning Quarter.

A three storey teaching block that will accommodate state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory facilities, Dudley Sixth is set to provide 'A' level teaching across a range of traditional and contemporary courses. Constructed using piled foundations and a composite frame, the building features a pre-cast concrete ground floor and steel frame structure for the remaining two storeys, with metal deck and in-situ concrete floors. External finishes to Dudley Sixth's façade include brickwork, copper cladding and curtain walling.

In addition to the main construction programme, the project also involves minor refurbishment and extension works to Priory Villa, an existing Victorian building on site, enhancing accessibility and forming a new entrance. ISG will also carry out extensive external works, including the creation of a new plaza and lawned area with associated paths and paving.

ISG's Jonathan Kell, managing director - Midlands, commented: "The project was secured following a competitive tender process and our success has been based on both our best value approach and performance on the Dudley Evolve scheme. Completing a full sixth form facility in just 41-weeks, within a live campus environment is a challenging brief and, as the college is already inviting applicants for the September 2012 intake, there can be no margin for delays. Our understanding of the sector and precise project management will be critical in delivering the project, which is a landmark development for Dudley College."
