ISG Takes Hat-Trick Of Wins With Quantum Care

ISG continues to prove its specialist expertise in the care home sector after winning its third contract with residential care specialist, Quantum Care, in just five months.

The latest project will see ISG build a two-storey timber frame extension to increase capacity at Fosse house from 65 to 85 rooms. The new extension will provide 20 high specification en-suite bedroom/sitting rooms and includes a day room and kitchenette for every five rooms to offer residents a social setting and an opportunity for independent living within a safe and supported environment.

Continuing its collaborative client approach, ISG is working closely with Quantum care to ensure every detail of the construction and the fit out of the new facilities enhances the living environment for residents, including the selection of a soft palette of muted colours for the decorative scheme and the ability to incorporate a picture onto the door to each en-suite room to aid familiarity. The construction team has also undergone specialist dementia training to ensure that any interaction with existing residents is managed sensitively.

The Fosse House project also presents additional constructional challenges because of its St Albans location. The site is in an archaeologically sensitive area, which will necessitate a considerable sewer diversion to avoid disturbing potential historical remains, and the location is also surrounded by residential dwellings, prompting ISG to create a new site access road to minimise disruption to neighbours.

Bernard Clarke, ISG's South East managing director, commented: "A care home environment that caters for people with dementia requires a specialist contractor approach, particularly if work is being carried out while the existing facilities remain operational. Simply delivering a high quality construction solution is not enough as we have a commitment to working appropriately and sensitively with our client to manage the delivery process, ensuring both a positive outcome and a smooth programme with minimum disruption to residents."
