ISG Takes Up Residence At South Wales Boarding School

ISG has won a £5.4 million project to construct a new teaching and administration block at the prestigious Monmouth School, continuing the company's success in building a strong presence in South Wales from its base in Cardiff.

The 83-week scheme will see ISG demolish an existing classroom block and build the new four-storey 'William Jones Building' in a phased programme. The first five week section comprises enabling works, and this will be followed by a three-week pause, to prevent disruption to students while examinations take place at the School.

Work will resume at the end of January with the second section of the programme, which involves demolition of the existing two-storey classroom block and a redundant substation and café located behind it, creating a larger footprint for the new accommodation. Construction work will then begin at the end of March, commencing with piling works for a retaining wall. When completed, the new steel frame classroom and office building will feature blockwork and stone cladding to its façade to complement the surrounding architecture.

ISG's John Rawlinson, managing director - South West, commented: "The exacting standards required for our project at Monmouth School reflects the outstanding reputation that the school has forged for academic excellence. Managing the programme efficiently and sensitively on a live school site, with both day students and boarders, is critical to the success of the scheme and we are working closely with staff to minimise any potential disruption.

"Communication with the client and close management of our supply chain is essential to this process and ISG's wealth of experience and locally-based project team will undoubtedly prove instrumental in the successful outcome of this development."
