ISG Turns Around £12 Million Croydon College Scheme

ISG has commenced work on a high profile £12 million project for Croydon College, one of the largest education providers in the south east, to enhance facilities at its Fairfield campus. The project involves both new build and refurbishment elements, and sees ISG create a stunning new glazed rotunda structure, which will become the new entrance to the College.

Designed by architects Nightingale Associates, the six-storey concrete and steel frame rotunda incorporates a double-height space below ground level, which will house drama studios and music practice rooms. The upper levels provide light and spacious circulation areas with glazed walkways and two panoramic lifts providing access to upper levels in the main college building.

Within the existing college building, ISG will strip out and refurbish two floors of teaching accommodation, as well as installing new mechanical & electrical services and re-roofing part of the structure. The project is scheduled for completion in February 2011.

Craig Tatton, ISG's managing director, commented: "Despite concerns over public sector spending cuts, ISG is making significant progress securing high quality projects within the FE sector and within the education market in general. Evidence suggests that the overall value of projects within the market has fallen, however there are still numerous opportunities for high calibre main contractors with strong industry credentials. Most recently, ISG has been invited to tender for a range of stalled projects where the incumbent contractor has ceased trading, and as a business we have worked hard to develop compelling solutions to enable clients to get these schemes back on track."
