The UK's largest hot dip galvanizing firm is helping one of the world's leading retailers advertise its wares to millions of potential customers thanks to a unique product being used across all of its UK stores.

South East Galvanizing, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, not only supplied their galvanizing service to signage manufacturer ASG for steel gantries installed at the forecourts of every Tesco fuel station in the country. They also supplied a special paint called Galvacoat®, which has been specifically designed for use on galvanized steel, for which Wedge are the UK's sole supplier.
The project has seen more than 600 individual steel frames galvanized, and then coated using the two component polyurethane-acrylic based paint system, which has been specifically designed to provide effective adhesion on non-ferrous metals such as zinc.
Mark Endsleigh, Commercial Support Manager at South East Galvanizers, explained: "Galvanized steel is often required to be painted, predominantly for aesthetic purposes to complement a client's brand, and using standard paints on such treated steel is highly ineffective. Due to its inherent properties, standard paints will peel or flake within a very short period of time, requiring continual reapplication.
"The Galvacoat® paint that we supplied to ASG for use on Tesco's forecourt gantries is unique in that it completely adheres to steel that has been galvanized, and will retain its original colour over many, many years."
Eden Heath, Technical Director at ASG, commented: "We were asked specifically by our client to galvanize the steel in order to protect the gantries from the elements, and South East Galvanizing did a fantastic job. They also supplied us with this superb product, which enabled us to paint the gantries white in just one simple coat, which was hugely beneficial to us, and the client, in terms of efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
"Due to the steel gantries being installed at fuel stations nationwide, some in coastal locations, they were going to be highly exposed to the elements and we needed to make sure that they would endure the most severe of weather conditions. Compared with other paints which would require a number of treatments to ensure an even colour, we are very impressed and we will certainly consider using the product again for future projects."
