'Living in a modern timber frame home' is a new publication published and written by TRADA Technology on behalf of the UK Timber Frame Association, with support from the Timber Trade Federation (TTF). The new publication aims to help timber frame companies and insurance organisations encourage homeowners to look after their homes by understanding better how they are built. It covers key aspects including:
• five ways to check if the house is timber frame
• how the house was built
• its structure and features from top to bottom
• basic maintenance and improvements, including fire safety
• specific features to be aware of, in particular party walls.
The publication also outlines eight DIY projects with guidance on how to go about them without damaging, for example, the airtightness or fire safety measures, and includes a handy glossary of building terms.
