Morgan Thermal Ceramics announces the availability of Flexible Min-K® F382 and Min-K® F351 aerospace insulation, the next generation of the industry-leading Min-K® product line of microporous insulation. Lightweight and durable, Min-K® F382 and Min-K® F351 materials feature 20 to 25 percent lower thermal conductivity than the industry standard F182 and F150 microporous materials.

Flexible Min-K® insulation uses an optimized blend of best-in-class fumed silica, opacifiers and fibers to produce the lowest thermal conductivity product in high temperature applications. These particles and fibers create a structure that limits air convection, heat conduction and radiation transmission. The materials are non-combustible and have no flame or smoke spread.

The two new enhanced core material mixes have been altered to improve their thermal efficiency, and now provide the same thermal performance with 20 to 25 percent less insulation. This superior performance allows designers to lower the weight of insulated systems, while maintaining superior thermal performance.

"The improved Min-K® materials meet the aerospace industry's continuing demand for high-performance products, which can be used to develop lighter and more fuel efficient aircraft." said Allen Reisinger, Morgan Thermal Ceramics' product manager for microporous insulation. "They are engineered to provide optimum thermal efficiency while maintaining cost and physical properties."

Flexible Min-K® F382 and Flexible Min-K® F351 insulation are available in densities of 8, 10 and 16 lb/ft3 (pounds per cubic foot), equivalent to 128, 160, 256 kg/m3 (kilograms per cubic meter). Available thicknesses range from 1/8 to ½-inch (0.318 to 1.27 centimeters). Cloth facing options include E-Glass, S-Glass, Quartz, and Nextel™. The material has a temperature use limit of 1832°F (1000°C).
