Jury of 80 international journalists from 20 countries select fuel analyser and vehicle sound generator (VSG) as finalists

Warwick, UK - Delphi Automotive's fuel analyser and vehicle sound generator (VSG) have been nominated for the 2011 Equip Auto Innovation Awards organized by Equip Auto in association with the European Technical Journalists Association (AJTE), the French automobile press association (AFPA) and the international press.
The Innovation Awards - selected by an international panel of judges made up of 80 journalists from more than 20 countries - highlight the most innovative concepts, products and services presented by Equip Auto exhibitors. The award ceremony will take place on October 11, 2011 at 7:00pm GMT.

The Delphi fuel analyser offers first level diagnostics of fuel quality, providing immediate and accurate results via a digital display screen. The hand-held unit specifies the level of biodiesel present in a fuel sample. If the fuel is contaminated with unrefined biodiesel or vegetable oils, an error code will identify the potential cause of contamination.
Using this data, the workshop or garage can immediately identify whether there is an unacceptable amount of biodiesel present or if there is a contamination which will impact the fuel injection system. Only 46ml of fuel is required to undertake an analysis. This small amount of fuel can be retrieved from the fuel pump or filter, making this tool ideal for workshops receiving only systems components or garages servicing vehicles.
Drawing on its extensive knowledge of vehicle alarm systems, Delphi has developed a high-fidelity vehicle sound generator (VSG) - also called sounder - that enable pedestrians to detect nearby hybrid and electric vehicles which, without the sound generator, are nearly silent. This environmentally-friendly, single-box sounder is compact, lightweight and cost competitive. Robust enough for underhood mounting, it has a frequency range of 300Hz to 10 KHz and can reproduce melodies that represent the identities of individual vehicle manufacturers.
Delphi's sounder features a 32-bit microprocessor with flash memory, an audio class-D amplifier and links to a vehicle data bus, which enables a warning system offering multiple features. Though very light, weight of the conventional cone speaker system can be reduced by 66 percent when a special magnet is used to activate the system.
Twenty-six nominees were announced by Equip Auto on August 25, 2011. The final vote will take place at Equip Auto with the jury selecting a gold and silver award recipient from the following categories: OEM / Greentech, Spare Parts and Aftermarket, Garage Equipment, and Services and Service Stations.
