WARWICK - Delphi is introducing a wireless electronic test tool to help technicians improve their accuracy while performing a Ministry of Transportation (MOT) test. The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA)-approved Delphi MOT Test Master offers technicians the opportunity to conduct the annual test of automobile safety, roadworthiness and exhaust emissions for vehicles three years and older rapidly and efficiently without recording any data on paper. Instead technicians simply enter all test results on the wireless handheld device as the test progresses.
Once the results are recorded electronically they can then be uploaded to the vehicle test station when the test is complete, saving time and increasing accuracy by avoiding the need to type in results from a handwritten sheet. Additionally, technicians can quickly refer to test manuals on-screen. Garages also have the option to purchase one, two or three-year software licenses, including all relevant VOSA updates. The Test Master can also easily be converted for use as a diagnostic tool providing users with a possible dual function device that acts as both an efficient MOT test tool and could be used as a comprehensive diagnostic solution.
"The Delphi MOT Test Master should reduce a one-hour MOT test by at least ten minutes once the technician is familiar with the device and uses it regularly," explains Lucia Moretti, vice president, Delphi Product and Service Solutions, EMEA. "Feedback from MOT test stations indicates that the widely used paper-based approach can cause problems when the test sheet is misplaced or mistakes are made copying results to the vehicle test station. Using an electronic device offers technicians a straightforward, paperless alternative to MOT testing and allows for data to be captured and recorded more accurately. By investing in an electronic MOT test tool, garages are better prepared to comply with future MOT testing where interrogating ECUs for emissions data is expected to become a required element."
Technicians using the Delphi MOT Test Master first download test data for the vehicle in question by docking the portable handheld device with their vehicle test station. They can then carry the data with them as they conduct the test, without having to walk back to the Vehicle Test Station to check pieces of information. Once all the test data has been recorded, the device can be re-docked with the vehicle test station to upload the results.
Included in the package are the handheld device (Delphi 350UMPC) complete with an ethernet cable and a case, a choice of one to three year MTT software licenses, £170 worth of additional free AutoIQ and SBQC software and a free 21-day trial of Delphi Technical Data covering technical and diagnostic information for cars and commercial vehicles. Customers purchasing the new device will also benefit from a 25 percent discounted membership to the MOT club, a free annual site assessment and unlimited access to Delphi's technical helpline.
"In addition to being a highly practical MOT test tool, it is also very straightforward to enhance the functionality of the Test Master by converting it for use as a diagnostic tool," added Kevin Kelly, Service Business Line Director, Delphi Product and Service Solutions, EMEA. "It is currently the only electronic MOT test tool available to offer both options, and all users need to do to make the conversion possible is order a Delphi vehicle communications interface (VCI) and additional software. This makes the initial investment in the tool far more worthwhile."
By using the Delphi MOT Test Master as a diagnostic tool, technicians have access to diagnostic solutions for all makes of car, serial diagnostics, EOBD and OBD II vehicle diagnostics, fault code management, service light reset and component activation.
The Delphi MOT Test Master can be purchased via all Delphi approved distributors.
