Emergency Logistics specialist Evolution Time Critical has overcome festive disruptions, complex customs procedures and a remote delivery location to ensure vital parts were delivered to a client 1200 miles inside China. The parts were needed for a crucial test, scheduled to take place in Dandong China on the border with North Korea, but were delayed in the UK on the 23rd December, two days before the UK's biggest public holiday. The client's standard courier could not deliver the parts by the required deadline due to time of year, so Evolution Time Critical was called in to ensure the programme wasn't disrupted.

"This was certainly one of the most challenging deliveries we have faced," said Brad Brennan, Evolution Time Critical managing director. "The hazardous nature of the goods, delivery location and festive disruptions created the 'perfect storm'. We overcame the constant challenges and delivered the parts on time, in fact they arrived with time to spare. No two jobs are the same and our flexibility and adaptability, along with our strong network of local specialists, ensured that we were able to complete the challenge set for us by the client and avoid severe penalties."

Had the parts not arrived in time for the test, the production schedule could have been severely disrupted, resulting in financial and reputational damage for the client. Although the timeframe was not the tightest that Evolution Time Critical has dealt with, the job was extremely complex.

As the parts in question were classed as hazardous goods this added a further challenging dimension to the operation. As the client had relied on a non-specialist carrier originally, the parts were rejected at the UK airport due to incorrect packing and paperwork. This delay, which took place on Christmas Eve, meant that the package was not able to fly out until after Christmas day, once it had been correctly packed by Evolution Time Critical's dangerous goods specialist.

Once the parts were correctly packaged and the paperwork filled out correctly, a new exit airport was identified 200 miles from the original location. This time there was no delay at the airport and the parts were delivered into Shanghai. Due to the nature of the goods, there was a lengthy customs clearance process which left just three days for one of Evolution Time Critical's local drivers to cover 1200 miles through rural China and arrive at Dandong in time for the tests.

"With a globalised supply chain it is critical to have an understanding of the intricacies of the international calendar," said Brennan. "In this instance the delivery date fell between Christmas and the Chinese New Year, if the parts had not been delivered on time the tests would have been further delayed by China's national holiday."
