Big congratulations to Elliot Shakeshaft, an apprentice in the transport department at Kier Harlow, who has received not one, but two, awards in the retail motor industry IMI Awards 2010-2011. Elliot was presented with his awards at Harlow College on 11 October.
Elliot, who was up against some tough competition from fourteen other colleges throughout the south region including the Colchester Institute based at Braintree, Havering College, Barking and Dagenham College, and Epping Forest College; received the Apprentice of the Year award for the level 2 programme in mechanics and the Chairman's awards for the most outstanding student.
This is the first year the Chairman's award has been run by IMI Awards, which are the leading UK's awarding body focusing on the retail motor industry.
The mechanic apprentice has been training with Kier Harlow for the past year and in that time he has become a valued member of staff working alongside his mentors - mechanics Les Cole, Richard Saunders, Nick Perry and one other apprentice, Jeff Wingard.
Kier Harlow mechanic Richard Saunders commented: "Elliot is very hard working and has learnt very quickly in the short space of time he has been with us. He takes pride in his work and is always double checking what he has done. I am thrilled that he has achieved these awards and believe he truly deserves them."
So what's next for Elliot..? Now that he has finished his level 2 programme he is staying on to do level 3, and with the help of his mentors will hopefully go on to win again next year!
Kier Harlow transport manager Martin Bytner commented: "Elliot has a big future within Kier, not only because the workforce is ageing, but because he has the right attitude and works great in a team. We are lucky to have him as part of our team here in Kier Harlow."
