The Joint Investment Programme offers an important source of funding for building products companies who want to provide training to their staff and build for the future. Funding is available for 50 per cent of the cost of training in low carbon techniques and advanced manufacturing, money which can help companies train their workforce in new techniques and adapt to the changing commercial landscape.

With competition intense, and the industry keen to reduce its impact on the environment, companies need to find new, more efficient ways of working if they are to build for a sustainable, successful future. A range of qualifications are available under the Joint Investment Programme that will help staff develop their professional skills, which in the long-term will bring significant benefits to the business.

These include qualifications in management and sustainable energy, as well as several that hold real relevance to the building products industry. Qualifications are available under the Joint Investment Programme in:

• Health, Safety and Environmental Management (Level 4)
• Managing Basic Processing Operations (Level 4)
• Managing Standard Processing Operations (Level 4)
• Managing Complex Processing Operations (Level 4)
• Mining Electrical Operations (Level 3)
• Mining Mechanical Operations (Level 3)

These qualifications are based on rigorous analysis of the needs of industry and are designed to equip staff with skills which will add real value to the business, helping them work more efficiently and productively. Providing relevant, targeted training to staff also enhances morale and deepens staff loyalty, further reinforcing the commercial benefits of training staff, even against a backdrop of continuing economic uncertainty.

By highlighting the importance of training and making the building products industry's case for funding to develop the skills of the workforce, Proskills is helping companies prepare for a future in which skills and technical knowledge will be crucial to commercial success. We would encourage companies thinking of providing training to their staff to get in touch with us first to ensure the course is targeted at their commercial needs - think skills, think Proskills.
