Leading refurbishment restoration and repair specialist Plastic Surgeon has recently completed the restoration of key features in a Grade II listed building in Manchester. The restored building will provide new teaching accommodation for North Manchester Sixth Form College. Plastic Surgeon's expertise was called upon to restore damaged tiles and damaged pillars during the refurbishment of the Grade II listed building - a former Victorian swimming baths.

The Manchester College, in conjunction with Manchester City Council developed the North Manchester Sixth Form College building in two phases, a part new build, and part restoration of the existing Grade II listed public baths building to provide new teaching accommodation to supplement the College.

The construction works were completed recently by leading northern construction contractor, Quarmby Construction, who employed the services of Plastic Surgeon to restore and repair a number of the unique features in the former Victorian swimming baths.

A team of the fine finishing and repair specialist's highly skilled operatives were on site to repair floor tiles, wall tiles, pillars and detailed ceramic features as part of the refurbishment contract.

Quarmby Construction Site Manager Kevin Starkey said:

"This project involved the refurbishment of a Grade II Listed building and so we had to restore the unique original features. Plastic Surgeon was able provide repairs that were detailed and virtually invisible, we simply could not tell where the damage had been. They did a fantastic job, a very professional service and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them as a result."

Plastic Surgeon is able to carry out virtually undetectable repairs to all categories of ceramics and masonry including brickwork, tiles, pillars, different stone types and render surfaces.

Even entire elevations can be over-coated using the company's specially developed colour matching system in order to conceal age related discolouration or to overcome damage or where the wrong materials have previously been used during repair.

The Plastic Surgeon fine finishers have extensive experience in education establishments. They are employed by Construction, FM and Repair and Maintenance Contractors working on schools, colleges and universities across the UK. Plastic Surgeon's green credentials are very appealing to construction contractors.

In 2010 Plastic Surgeon carried out over 200,000 individual repairs, saving over 1,700 tonnes from landfill waste. With an average saving of £300 per repair, that's equivalent to the weight of 10 jumbo jets and has saved their customers close to £100,000 in landfill taxes. In this case study, as none of the damaged items had to be ripped out or replaced, waste was saved from going to landfill, making the Plastic Surgeon solution a sustainable procurement choice.
