Italian designer mosaics company, Trend, has added a fresh dimension to its authentic, handcrafted glass tiles range, with a new piccolo formato 1cm x 1cm collection. Often known as micro mosaic tiles, these tiny glass squares have all the decorative and long-lasting properties of the larger 2cm format, yet are perfect for even more intricate décor panels, borders, floors, walls and ceilings, minimising the pixelated effect on complex mosaic designs, when used with colour-matched grout lines.
Available shortly to registered stockists, the latest Trend 1 x 1 tile collection of 45 different colours and textures consists of quarter-size versions of its popular Vitreo, Brillante and Shining mix'n'match series, its eco-friendly Feel contemporary tiles and the smallest of its exquisite Aureo 24 carat glass mosaics. Other than Aureo, none of these ranges have been offered in the micro mosaic format before, greatly expanding the decorative possibilities now available under the Trend brand.
Especially developed by Trend for the new 1 x 1 collection, the choice of colours extends from pearlescent or textured whites and genuine white gold leaf, through greens, golden hues and earthen tones, to pinks, ruby and deepest black. For retailers and specifiers, the colour options are presented in a stylish 1 x 1 tile samples box, for presenting to clients, and they are also included in the new 250-page My Catalogue Passione, which for the very first time assembles all Trend mosaic and agglomerate collections in a single lavish publication.
Conscious that the smaller size of these tesserae might make them difficult to handle, Trend is mounting all 1 x 1 glass mosaic tiles on its innovative trend+ polyurethane backing system, creating a user-friendly tiling system, greatly speeding installation times and ensuring a perfect finish for all interior and exterior tiling. Adding further to the range's consumer appeal, the 1 x 1 tiles feature a higher percentage of recycled content, with its smalto-type Feel opaque tiles being made from 80% post-consumer recovered glass.
As might be expected from Trend's modern glass mosaics, the 1 x 1 tiles' technical performance is impressive too, with internationally accredited resistance to water absorption, harsh chemicals, thermal shock and frost, while the tesserae are traditionally fused and coloured en masse for uniformity of shade throughout and retaining their appearance over a lifetime. The 1cm square tiles are DIN rated for slip resistance and the closely-spaced grout lines create an additional anti-slip texture, making them ideal for flooring applications and swimming pool surrounds.
Whether used for adding a designer touch to large plain tiles or creating intricate textures across entire surfaces, Trend's 1 x 1 collection is suitable for every room in the house, including showers and wet rooms, as well as conservatories and patios. The smaller tiles mould themselves closely to curved and contoured surfaces, to 90˚ or rounded corners, even picture frames, furniture and artefacts.
As with Trend's larger 2cm mosaic collection, the new 1 x 1 tiles are compatible in format, thickness (4mm) and colour themes, enabling the constituent ranges to be used alone or in exciting mix'n'match combinations, with pricing according to grade and composition.
Recommended retail prices for semi-transparent coloured glass Vitreo micro mosaics start from around £51 per square metre; Brillante tiles, with shimmering veins of enamel and avventurina, are from £154; while the iridescent Shining range, enriched with semiprecious metals, is priced around £137. Trend's contemporary Feel opaque, textured 1 x 1 glass mosaics will retail for around £82psm, while exquisite Aureo micro-tiles, with white or yellow gold leaf sandwiched between hand-blown glass, are usually priced individually, for retailing between 65p to £1.10 per piece.
