Earlier this year the Department of Energy and Climate Change released figures which demonstrated a dramatic increase in the number of Solar PV installations within the UK domestic market.
Since the previous year, the figures show that the number of installations that have taken place have more than tripled which could be as a direct result of the government's Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) scheme (also known as the energy cash-back scheme).
In April last year, the Government introduced Feed-In-Tariffs (FITs) under the powers in the Energy Act 2008.
Feed-In-Tariffs mean that anyone that installs eligible Solar PV systems will receive a guaranteed fixed payment for the electricity generated for a period of 25 years.
This payment includes energy that they utilise themselves as well as the energy that is fed back into the National Grid.
The Feed-In-Tariff was brought in to incentivise homeowners to produce their own electricity via installations such as Solar PV.
