In May at a spectacular circus themed event at Chester Racecourse, ITV's Lucy Meacock announced that BuilderScrap had won the award for Business Innovation in the North West Construction Awards. Lucy stumbled over the name of the company, which caused a few giggles from the audience.
The company has recently rebranded as recipro, an identity better suited to the organisation which has developed since its launch in 2008.

Roy Stewart, chief executive at CCINW, said: "This is a fantastic example of a company committed to continuous improvement. Recipro have come up with a great idea which is clearly delivering positive benefits to the industry. The judges had a really good 'feel' about this and it was a unanimous winner for us all."

Initially set up as a basic platform for builders to pass on surplus construction materials to others in the trade, the company has evolved to benefit other members of the community, such as schools, charities and members of the general public. Working with the Centre for Construction Innovation and Salford University, recipro can measure the carbon and landfill reductions made by its members.

Recipro is also developing a service for larger construction contractors to use on major sites and projects, which is being piloted throughout 2011.

Following the re-brand, this will the last award for BuilderScrap, but hopefully there will be many more for recipro in the upcoming months and years as the organisation continues to grow.
