PCA Training Course Tackles Condensation

Condensation is a growing problem as the demands for energy efficient properties reduce the airflow around a building.

Ways of identifying and addressing the issue are covered in a one day course 'Condensation and Dampness In Buildings,' targeted at property and construction professionals and run by UK trade body The Property Care Association (PCA).

Training takes place at the PCA's purpose-built training centre, located in Huntingdon, on September 27, 2011 and the workshop is aimed at surveyors, architects, building inspectors, environmental health officers and social housing professionals.

Steve Hodgson, general manager of the PCA, said: "This course aims to provide information and guidance on the problems of condensation and its relationship with toxic mould. "Candidates will learn how to recognise the symptoms of condensation, water penetration and damp, identify the causes and provide the remedies. "The course also investigates how modern living conditions - including central heating, double glazing and sealed air gaps - have all led to an increase in the amount of condensation in UK properties."

A range of training is provided by the PCA relevant for property and construction professionals, which is available for members and non-members.

Courses are held at the Association's Huntingdon centre and, by arrangement, at a location of choice for larger groups of delegates.

Notes To Editors

Noted for its training and technical expertise, The Property Care Association (PCA) represents the UK's damp control, timber infestation, flood recovery, basement waterproofing, structural repair and condensation specialists. It incorporates the British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association (BWPDA), which has been in formation for more than 75 years. The PCA is a member of TrustMark the scheme supported by the Government, to help property owners find reliable and trustworthy tradespeople to make home improvements. Its contractor members are all carefully vetted before being awarded membership - and are then subject to rigorous auditing procedures once admitted to the Association. As well as delivering a trusted repair procedure, PCA members are able to carry out specialist surveys as part of the house-buying procedure to identify potential problems - as well as a range of other services designed to preserve and protect homes and buildings across the UK.
