MILLBROOK, UK - Allison Transmission, a key sponsor of the IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) Skills Challenge, presented the Top Scoring Mechanical Technician award at a ceremony at the Houses of Parliament on June 27th, 2011. The competition aims to recognise and reward engineering competence within the road transport industry. Allison Transmission's role was to design and score a four-question theory test and a practical evaluation, relating to the maintenance, diagnostics and operation of its 2100 Series fully automatic transmission, as found on many of the UK's buses. The winner was William Scott of Northern Ireland's public transport operator, Translink.
"We are delighted for William and all the winners of the IRTE Skills Challenge, and are proud to be a part of this important initiative to develop the skills of bus technicians and encourage their professional development," says Patricia Cobbold, OEM account manager for Allison Transmission. "All industry players benefit from supporting our engineering talent in such ways. We were very impressed by the performance of all the teams and the ways in which they addressed the challenge we set for them."
Allison automatic and hybrid technology has been selected by customers worldwide. In 2010, Allison global sales into city bus and coach applications exceeded 15,000 units. The company works with many of the UK's bus fleets to deliver fuel efficient, reliable, safe and smooth passenger transportation.
