Camfil Farr is a global manufacturer of air filtration equipment and associated services and the world leader in the production and development of air filters. They recently became the first manufacturing company in the UK to be awarded international Energy Management Standard ISO 50001 and the Energy Reduction Verification (ERV) Kitemark.

Camfil Energy Consultant, Peter Dyment is to sit on the steering committee of a new EU supported project known as iSERV. The purpose of iSERV is to improve the current method of identifying energy saving opportunities (ECO's) in Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. iSERV is the largest project to be supported by Intelligent Energy Europe. The first full meeting took place in September over in Hungary, with the programme set to run for three years.

Complementing the EPBD policy of mandatory inspection and reporting every 5 years, iSERV's ultimate objective is to minimise the need for inspections where an appropriate level of energy efficiency performance has been demonstrated. This method is suitable for all buildings with one or many individual HVAC systems.

Peter Dyment, Energy Consultant, Camfil Farr said:
"I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to sit on the iSERV steering committee. The initial meeting introduced an industry experienced steering committee which participated actively in the iSERV partners meeting as well as in the first public workshop held for stakeholders."

He went on to say:

"Over the introduction period, the registration of sites from around the EU Member States will enable a profile of energy usage for various end use activities to be established. Energy benchmarks can then be calculated for each type of activity and the priority for effective use of ECO's can be established. The initial number of sites for each country is expected to be around a hundred for each the sixteen EU member states."

About iSERV

iSERV follows on from the original program completed by the Harmonac project. Harmonac was successful in identifying many ECO's or Energy Conservation Opportunities. Better Air Filters were one of the main ECO's identified.

The optimised selection of air filters using the Life Cycle Costing is a well-known practice and the EUROVENT model is widely recognised. Low Energy Air Filters are the best solution for required clean air quality with minimum use of energy and represent an ECO solution that frequently occurs with significant potential and very short payback time.
iSERV is looking for building owners and stakeholders, facility managers and HVAC system operators who are interested in taking part in this program.
