EMSc (UK) Ltd, manufacturer of the market leading, energy saving, voltage optimisation product Powerstar is holding a free Continuing Professional/Personal Development (CPD) course aimed specifically at local authorities and the NHS on Tuesday the 6th December 2011 at The Eastpoint Centre, Southampton.

With the public sector directly responsible for a significant amount of the UK's carbon emissions, many public sector facilities managers are seeking effective initiatives to ensure that their organisations effectively reduce their carbon emissions.

The free seminar will cover topics such as energy legislation, approaches to energy reduction for local authorities, and energy management for public services. In addition, the event will highlight how low voltage optimisation can improve energy efficiency, reduce energy bills, and help organisations attain their emissions targets whilst raising their green credentials.

Mr Terry Shemwell, voltage optimisation consultant for local authorities and Mr Duncan Agnew, voltage optimisation consultant for the NHS will both be presenting. EMS technical engineer Mr Gary Mills will be delivering the CPD presentation.

Proven Results

Tower Hamlets Council, one of the five host boroughs for the 2012 London Olympic Games, commissioned Powerstar to survey its facilities at Albert Jacob House - the offices for Homeless and Housing Advices Services. The survey identified that a minimum of 12% in electricity could be achieved through voltage optimisation, which equates to £6,411 on the annual electricity charge and a reduction of 30 tonnes per annum in carbon emissions.

Powerstar installations for Mersey Care NHS Trust at Rathbone Hospital and Scott Clinic have delivered electricity savings averaging 18% on annual energy consumption. At Rathbone Hospital, annual KwH savings are 67,796, the equivalent of £6,974, whilst Scott Clinic has benefitted from annual KwH savings of 51,573 or £5,446.

Alex Mardapittas, managing director at EMSc (UK) Ltd commented "As the UK faces worsening power quality issues with harmonic, transient, power factor and phase balancing issues; voltage optimisation offers one of the most secure technologies for public sector organisations to adopt as part of their sustainability strategies."

The free to attend seminar will take place at the Eastpoint Centre in Southampton from 9.30 am until 1.00 pm. It will include a free buffet lunch and all attendees will be awarded with training certificates and self-assessment forms on completion of the seminar. There will also be an opportunity for networking.

CPD, Continuing Personal or Professional Development is the term that describes a commitment to structured skills enhancement and personal or professional competence.
