Twenty-one Initial Facilities cleaning operatives working on the London Underground have completed a Government-funded apprenticeship programme.

The success of the initiative, designed to provide useful industry and skills training, has resulted in Initial Facilities committing to a wider strategy for apprenticeships across the business. The technical apprenticeship consisted of on and off the job training over a 12-month period.

The scheme has enabled the cleaning operatives to meet industry specific standards as well as benefit from a mix of competency-based learning. It also included transferable skills such as literacy and numeracy to support career and personal development. Graham Thwaites, Managing Director, Specialist Sector at Initial Facilities commented: "We recognise that the business can only deliver consistent high standards of service by employing a well-managed, well-motivated and well-trained workforce. Our people truly are the company's greatest asset, and the training and development of the entire workforce is a priority."
