Colleagues from Kier in Gosport have raised money for Children in Need, for the fifth consecutive year, by dishing up curry, chilli con carne and cupcakes to colleagues. Sue Widdowson, Kier contract manager for maintenance in Gosport, and a team of volunteers from the Kier depot on Willmott lane, raised a total of £200 with their culinary charity event.
Sue, said: "We're dedicated to improving the local area through the repairs and maintenance service we provide but also we're keen to reach out wider than that. Part of our corporate responsibility is to give back to the community and help with local projects so we're always eager to help in any way we can."
This is the latest in a string of charity based fundraisers that Kier, who provides repairs and maintenance to council-owned properties in Gosport, has organised. As well as being keen to get involved with fundraising projects, it has also demonstrated its commitment to the local area through a number of community based initiatives such as the Community Clean Up project that took place throughout October. Kier took part in the initiative, helping to blitz the town, discourage fly-tipping and encourage a cleaner environment.
Gosport Borough Council resident involvement officer, Sam Downing, said: "Without Kier's support, the Community Clean Up events wouldn't have been such a success. It was great to be able to work together to improve the neighbourhood."
Earlier in the year, Kier was also involved with the Summer Passport project, which provided a fortnight of free, fun activities for local children along with Gosport Community Safety Partnership and a wide range of local businesses.
It also supported Gosport in the Recycle for Hampshire campaign by donating unwanted clothes, shoes and textiles. Kier collected the greatest amount out of all local businesses which was donated to The British Heart Foundation to raise funds.
Kier has further helped residents reduce gas consumption by completing gas inspections to 99 per cent of council-owned properties.
