Young people working towards a career in gas engineering will be able to gain valuable hands-on training thanks to a new contract between Kier North Tyneside and leading training provider JTL to tackle youth unemployment in the region.

The contract, which begins this month and will run until September 2012, will see trainees carrying out training modules including CCN1 (core safety), CPA1 (combustion performance analyser) and appliance training based on individual requirements.
Appliance training can include HTR1 (fires and space heaters), CKR1 (cookers), CENWAT1 (central heating boilers and water heaters) and DAH1 (domestic air heater). In return for providing assessment opportunities for its students, JTL will be providing all Kier North Tyneside operatives with manual handling courses to equip them with valuable skills and know-how to help them carry out tasks safely and without risk of injuring themselves or others.
All candidates carrying out plumbing apprenticeships with Kier North Tyneside will also receive their classroom training with JTL.
Kier North Tyneside director, Mike Furze, said:

Kier North Tyneside is currently recruiting for ten apprentices to work across a number of professional trades as part of its commitment to supporting local young people into employment. Interviews are taking place this month and successful candidates will start with the company in October.
