In each of the eight sections of the Considerate Constructors Scheme Code, it is possible to score between one and five points, with three indicating compliance.

Orpen House scored full marks in two categories (good neighbour and responsible) with its overall score of 37 points out of a possible 40 meaning the site has officially been classed as 'an exceptionally good site'. Kier has carried out Decent Homes improvements to the accommodation in Norton including the installation of new kitchen and bathroom facilities.

The company has also carried out repairs and improvement works at other sheltered housing facilities across Sheffield including supplying a new kitchen for Blackberry Hamlet in Mosborough. In addition to the Decent Homes work, Kier has organised events and activities for the residents of Orpen House as part of the company's commitment to the local community.

Schoolchildren from local primary school, Valley Park, took part in a visit to Orpen House to entertain the residents with games and cards. Kier provided lunches for all residents and attendees and provided trophies and certificates to those who took part.

Other events organised by Kier saw residents enjoying fish and chip lunches and coffee mornings alongside friends, neighbours and staff. Kier regional managing director for maintenance, Simon Bullen, said: "We are delighted with the results of this latest report. We always strive to provide our customers and neighbours with the best possible service and we take our commitment to the Considerate Constructors Scheme extremely seriously. We were especially proud to be able to involve the older members of the community through various activities and events. It's a fantastic opportunity to be able to give something back to the local community."

The Considerate Constructors Scheme was established in 1997 and aims to improve the image of construction. Companies registering their sites with the scheme agree to be considerate, a good neighbour, clean, respectful, safe, environmentally conscious, responsible and accountable.

Considerate Constructors Scheme chief executive, Edward Hardy, said: "Kier Sheffield's team has done exceptionally well in working with the residents and the local community to create a number of fantastic initiatives which have resulted in Kier Sheffield achieving a maximum possible score in two criteria. The work carried out by Kier Sheffield has been exemplary and we hope that other organisations will be able to learn from the outstanding examples set by Kier.

" Sheffield Homes Rhian Owen, sheltered housing manager, said: "Kier Sheffield makes a real difference by running these extra events for the residents of our sheltered housing accommodation, the team is always friendly and the residents enjoy the activities they run. The excellent report which Kier has received is credit to the hard work the team puts in on a daily basis and one hundred per cent deserved."

Kier Group has been an Associate Member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme since January 2008 and every eligible Kier site or project is registered under the Scheme.
