As part of the European Health & Safety week (24 - 28 Oct), Kier in Islington invited a few colleagues from the British Safety Council along to deliver a talk to their apprentices on the importance of not only work safety but also about personal safety.
Delivering the presentation were Matthew Holder and Laura Milsom from the British Safety Council. The two focused on engaging Kier's young workers on health & safety in and out of the workplace, by giving them examples of how they can take responsibility for their own personal safety in their everyday lives, such as in a nightclub, on the football pitch and on holiday.
These scenarios helped the presenters engage with the apprentice's and understand their attitudes and behaviours. This also gave them a good base to talk about attitude and behaviours in the workplace and how it really does have a positive impact on safety.
The presentation by the British Safety Council was supported by Kier SHE advisor John Callaghan who also spoke about the importance of safety especially at work.
John commented: "On behalf of myself and Kier I would like to say a big thank you to the British Safety Council for supporting our health & safety week. Those that came to the presentation believed it to be a worthwhile cause and gained some important knowledge of safety. All in all I believe the European Health & Safety week was a great success!"
