For the past few years we have been thrilled to feature EDP's clients who have received prestigious awards and international recognition for excellence in the way they manage their Occupational Health and Safety. Four years ago Microsoft Ltd (UK) were first awarded a 5-star grading by the British Safety Council.
This made them eligible to compete for the coveted Health and Safety Sword of Honour, which they were awarded on their first attempt. Microsoft have maintained this record of achievement for each successive year, but this has not led to any sense of complacency. When it comes to the safety and welfare of their staff, Microsoft pursues a policy of continuous improvement, in the knowledge that there are always opportunities to make things better. For Microsoft, legal compliance is just the starting point.
Their aim is to ensure that their people are always protected in accordance with latest industry best practice. Last year, they sought and achieved accreditation against the requirements of OHSAS18001:2007. This is an internationally recognized standard for Occupational Health and Safety management systems.
Towards the end of April 2010, Microsoft once again submitted their Health and Safety Management System to a 5-day, independent evaluation by the British Safety Council. Yet again we are proud and pleased to report that Microsoft Ltd (UK) have retained their 5-star grading and their accreditation against OHSAS18001. This achievement is the result of much hard work on the part of Microsoft's core health and safety team comprising EDP Consultants Ria Creswell, Matt Phillpotts and John Bradford and headed up by Microsoft UK's Facilities Manager Simon Fry. This is an enviable record for any company and the team of EDP consultants is justly proud to be a vital part of this impressive achievement. Submit your health and safety consultancy enquiry here.
