Will the Government spot the most cost effective solution in the drive to reduce energy consumption at Whitehall over the next 12 months?

According to H&V News (28th July 2010) the Government has clearly stated its desire to reduce energy consumption in its own buildings by 10% in the next year click here for full article.

Minister for the Cabinet Office, Francis Maud called on departments and contractors to work together under the terms of a new energy efficiency code.

The question is, will they spot the easiest and most cost effective solution?

Richard Norman, Managing Director of Indepth Hygiene Services commented: "If all these buildings had their ductwork systems reviewed, it is likely that the condition of the air handling units and coils would be horrendous, having never been cleaned for years".

Richard went on to say:

"If these were cleaned and low energy air filtration installed, the improvement in air flow would massively decrease the energy requirement.

The Carbon Trust have identified that heating ventilation and air conditioning accounts for the majority of money spent by an organisation on energy and that cleaning fans, filters and air systems improves efficiency by up to 60%".
