Libraries in Warrington benefit from new technology
3M, the diversified technology company, has been working with Warrington Borough Council to install a range of SelfCheck equipment across its 13 libraries. The specialised equipment will convert the libraries to self-service and is already operational at libraries in Lymm, Warrington, Penketh and Stockton Heath. Burtonwood library went live at the end of last year and three further libraries will move to self-service this year.
The 3M SelfCheck systems use radio frequency identification detection (RFID), which facilitates self-service and allows items to be easily identified and located. This helps enhance the services offered by allowing library visitors to check out and return their items quickly and easily, saving time and helping them to manage their own library account. In addition the workstations include a coin fines and fees payment option, offering privacy for payments.
Library staff benefit from the RFID installations through Staff Workstations and Digital Library Assistants, hand held devices that enable staff to quickly and easily perform shelf-reading searches and inventory scans.
Fiona Barry, Principal Libraries Manager, Warrington Borough Council comments: "This was a huge investment for Warrington to make and is proving a big success. The introduction of self-service has enabled our vision for a more accessible and flexible service to be realised, in line with our users' needs. We have been delighted with the level of support provided to us by 3M, in planning, installation and ongoing support and we have showcased these successful installations to colleagues from neighbouring library authorities."
3M is a leading supplier of technology solutions to libraries. The company offers a wide range of options to suit all libraries, including RFID systems, SelfCheck systems, Tattle-Tape Security technology and applications, detection systems and circulation accessories.
