Last year more than 25,000 students from 550 schools registered to take part in Proskills' Schools-into-Industry Programmes (SIIP's), gaining important experience of industry and developing a range of practical skills in the process.
Proskills, the Sector Skills Council for the process and manufacturing sector, is now launching the DesignIT! Ceramics programme for the 2011-12 academic year, aiming to help students develop key skills relevant to the ceramics industry.
This holds real importance to the future of the industry. While ceramics is a long-established part of the commercial landscape, and demand remains strong, the industry still needs to evolve and adapt to changes in the wider business climate. Attracting new entrants is a central part of this agenda; by building closer links between schools and industry the DesignIT! Ceramics programme will heighten awareness of the wide range of career opportunities it offers.
The DesignIT! Ceramics programme will help students develop their creative skills through a live brief which closely reflects the demands faced by professionals. This will offer valuable insights into ceramics, help students develop skills relevant to the industry, and hopefully inspire some to enter the industry and contribute to its ongoing development.
The DesignIT! Ceramics programme will introduce students to the major challenges facing the ceramics industry and help them develop the key skills that will support its future development. If you would like to get involved in the DesignIT! Ceramics programme and help ensure that the education system supports the skills needs of industry then please get in touch via the contact details provided below.
