Laser expert to discuss high speed marking and engraving of metals and welding

MONROVIA, CA - Miyachi Unitek Corporation, a leading manufacturer of welding equipment and systems, announces that it will be presenting at FABTECH 2011, to be held in November 14-17, 2011, at McCormick Place, in Chicago. Miyachi Unitek will also be displaying its 20W fiber laser at the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Booth 5800, at the entrance to North Hall.
Dr. Geoffrey Shannon, Miyachi Unitek's laser technology manager, will give an introduction to High Speed Laser Marking and Engraving of Metals on Monday, November 14th at 10.30 a.m. in S403A. He will share process capabilities and demonstrate applications examples for the technology, a tool to produce extreme marking speeds on copper, aluminum, and other ferrous materials. These high power, high brightness fiber laser markers are now offered up to 100W, and offer deep engraving with control on removal rates versus engrave quality.
On Wednesday, November 16th, Dr. Shannon will give an Introduction to Laser Welding at 10.30 a.m., in S402B). "Laser welding is becoming an increasingly adopted technology across a wide range of industries," said Dr. Shannon. "The presentation will focus on introducing participant to the materials, joint geometries, basic weld penetration data, and other key aspects required for successful laser welding." Dr. Shannon will also give an overview of available laser sources, and give application examples of where each works best.
