The PrintIT! programme has attracted support from a broad range of companies since its launch in 2005 with Quark, the leading provider of publishing software, the latest to add their backing to the initiative. Quark has taken up a Gold sponsorship package for the 2011/12 PrintIT! programme and will provide copies of the latest version of QuarkXpress to both winning students and their schools.
This software will be invaluable in the classroom, helping teachers engage their students in major design challenges and demonstrate the creative possibilities of the print industry. By supporting the PrintIT! programme and giving students access to cutting-edge digital design and production features, Quark is helping the next generation of talent develop key technical skills.
These skills are crucial to the future of the UK's print and paper industries. In today's highly competitive marketplace companies are striving to improve efficiency without compromising quality; developing the skills of the workforce is key to meeting these challenges and adapting to the changing commercial climate.
Peter Schaebbicke, Quark European Channel and Education Programmes Director, comments: "We are proud to be sponsoring The PrintIT! Programme as we believe it is an outstanding scheme for students who are looking to start a career in print and publishing. We want students to be able to experiment with a professional desktop publishing tool and express their creativity with design control and professional print output.
"With QuarkXPress 9 students can learn to produce advertising, brochures, magazines, books, catalogues, newspapers, and more. In addition to sponsoring this initiative, Quark supports the education sector with very affordable pricing for teachers, students, schools, colleges or universities, who can have access to a professional publishing tool for a fraction of the cost."
By introducing students to major challenges facing the industry the PrintIT! programme is heightening awareness among students of the wide range of career opportunities available in the print and related industries and the scope they offer for individual creativity. This in turn will help companies attract talented new entrants and build for the future.
With Proskills keen to expand PrintIT! further in 2012, Deputy CEO Tom Bowtell says they greatly value Quark's support for the programme. "This is the first year of Quark's involvement with PrintIT! and their generous support will add a new dimension to this year's competition," he says.

About PrintIT!
Launched in 2005, PrintIT! is an industry-wide educational initiative which aims to encourage young people to consider a career in print.
As part of the curriculum-based PrintIT! course, students are challenged to create a print-based campaign. Aiming to promote the many varied and stimulating career paths available within the print industry, the PrintIT! competition was extended in 2008 to include Year 9 students (aged 13-14) as well as Year 10 students (aged 14-15) studying for their GCSEs in Product Design and Graphic Products.
PrintIT! is also relevant to the Diplomas in Creative and Media and Manufacturing and Product Design. PrintIT! is led by Proskills UK, the sector skills council representing the print and paper industries.
