Mayor Visits The Principle Trust

Town Mayor and Chairman of Skipton Council, Councillor Paul Whitaker, visited Principle Healthcare's European headquarters in Millennium Road recently, to draw prizes for a raffle in aid of the group's charitable trust. One of the leading producers of vitamins, minerals and nutritional supplements, the Skipton-based company created The Principle Trust at the beginning of last year, to raise funds for improving the lives of disadvantaged children and their families.

Over the previous twelve months, Principle's staff and friends of the Trust have been busily fundraising and the Mayor was updated on progress, as well as officiating at the year-end draw, the first ticket drawn winning a holiday in Lanzarote.

Trustees have also written to and emailed numerous businesses in the region and Principle's own customer and supplier database, asking for financial support, and have raised in excess of £16,000. This is on top of monies already invested by the Trust in the purchase two 3-bedroom holiday homes in the Haven Holiday Park at Marton Mere near Blackpool, for the use of deserving children throughout the year. Already, more than 150 children and their families have benefited from the Trust's activities.

The Trust also reported that it received generous donations of £1,000 and £500 from Ilkley and Skipton Rotary Clubs respectively, as part of their ongoing support for local charities, Ilkley's President, Ian Briggs, commenting that 'we feel it can make a real difference to people's lives'. In addition, the Ilkley Inner Wheel Club made a substantial contribution of £510 in memory of one of their former members, the late Marjorie Newton, since it was felt that The Principle Trust would have been a cause close to her heart.

Launched at a charity dinner on in January 2011, the Principle Trust is the brainchild of the company's Group MD, Mike Davies, who, having built up a successful healthcare business that serves the whole of Europe, wanted to help children in need within the local community and provide holiday facilities for these youngsters to enjoy. Principle Healthcare's employees and friends have responded enthusiastically to Mike's initiative, by staging numerous fundraising events, selling raffle tickets across North Yorkshire and organising charity stalls at local markets.

With millions of children in this country either living in poverty or disadvantaged socially, physically and emotionally, The Principle Trust is continuing its endeavours to support such youngsters through the provision of free seaside holidays and works with local authorities to ensure help reaches those children most in need. Donations can be made online via a dedicated website at http://theprincipletrust.co.uk and followers can sign up to the cause on its Twitter page at http://twitter.com/PrincipleTrust.
