Peterborough-based medical devices company Coloplast is celebrating the success of its online learning tool, the Coloplast Academy, following the download of its 1,000th module.

It is less than a year since the online learning resource was re-launched and Coloplast is delighted to have reached the 1,000th module milestone in such a short time. The e-learning piece which tipped the scales was the Bribery Act module which is mandatory for all Coloplast employees.

By completing the module staff are made aware of the effect of the recent act. As well as looking at the act itself, the module also looks at bribery prevention, expectations, liability for companies and employees, adequate procedures and corporate hospitality.

Sam Sedwill, HR director at Coloplast, said: "Relaunching the Coloplast Academy was a major part of our learning and development strategy. It has been so well received by staff that it is now constantly updated to keep the information fresh and relevant and to ensure staff continue to turn to the Academy for information.

"One of the main benefits of the Academy is the ability to ensure that all of our employees have access to the right materials at the right time. Training for the Bribery Act was made compulsory for all staff and had to be completed by 1 July, when the act became law in the UK. By launching the module via the Academy we could see who had and hadn't completed the training and therefore made sure that all employees had completed the training on time.

"We have been delighted with how well received the Coloplast Academy is. To have reached the 1,000th module download in less than a year is testament to how successful the system is and how keen our staff are to learn. Using online learning enables us to communicate quickly with every member of staff, which is vital for training on issues such as the Bribery Act."

Last summer the Coloplast Academy was redeveloped to be a one-stop-shop for everything staff need, from participating in online learning to planning their career development within the company. Coloplast encourages staff to move roles within departments or cross-functionally and the Academy has a section dedicated to helping staff identify possible career paths.

As well as providing access to online learning, staff can use the Academy to find details of formal training courses which they can apply for online. Staff can take part in self-discovery exercises and use their own results to learn ways of dealing with everyday situations, as well as reading inspiring, motivating success stories. There is also a library where staff can see what books are available to borrow from the company's learning and development department and a 'Ten Top Tips' section which includes tips on managing and creating budgets, planning appraisals and giving presentations.

Sam added: "The Academy is a flexible, accessible learning tool which provides each user with a unique learning experience. It is a world of knowledge not only about Coloplast and the products and services it provides but also about enabling staff to work proactively towards their career goals within the company."
