Material recovery experts Palm Recycling has been awarded the contract for the Paper Bank Collection service for South East Wales.
The new contract with the South East Wales Waste Management Group has now commenced and is for a three year period, with an option to extend for a further period of up to two years. Palm Recycling will be siting over 100 of its Paper Banks throughout locations within Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen. This will provide residents across the six local authorities with an easy and accessible method of recycling their paper at 70 sites.
Placed within convenient locations within each borough, such as supermarkets, schools and community locations, the scheme aims to encourage both paper recycling rates and the quality of recyclate material collected, as well as help the various authorities to meet their long term recycling goals.
Ross Johnstone, Business Manager, Palm Recycling, said: "The new Paper Bank collection service, developed in partnership with The South East Wales Waste Management Group, adds to the various recycling opportunities within the local community offering even more ways to recycle paper simply and easily. Once collected, the paper is processed through our state-of-the-art paper mill in Norfolk, providing reels of newsprint for the major newspaper and magazine groups throughout the UK and Europe."
James Kay, South East Wales Regional Waste Co-ordinator said: "This is excellent news for the region. The authorities will receive a fair income for the value of the resource material together and receive a technically competent and professional service. This complements the other regional contracts for WEEE, glass and textile materials."
The new paper banks in the region form part of a national network of over 6,000 recycling banks currently operated by Palm Recycling, which offers a turn-key Bring Bank management package that provides supply, service, monitoring and maintenance options.
