Sawtry-based East Anglian Galvanizing, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has teamed up with engineers GB Welding Services Ltd to produce a steel framework used to build the community facility in Bidford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire.
The site, which was designed and constructed by specialist skate park builders Flo-sk8parks, spans approximately 40 by 20 metres and comprises a 10 tonne steel 'skeleton', with a series of wooden ramps and jumps placed over the top of this framework.
Selwyn Parrish, Commercial Manager of East Anglian Galvanizing, explained: "As the skate park has been built near to the River Avon, in a location quite prone to flooding, it was decided that a steel frame covered in wood would be a better option than a purely wood-based alternative. Galvanizing the steel, which sees it dipped into molten zinc at a temperature of up to 450°C, offers a long-lasting protection against rust and corrosion, so the park is properly prepared to deal with any future floods."
"We have worked together with East Anglian Galvanizing on a variety of projects over the years," Adrian Salt, of Rutland-based GB Welding Services Ltd, revealed. "A lot of our work is driven by strict deadlines, and their team always go the extra mile to ensure projects are completed on time. The quality and reliability of their work is never in question, especially since they moved into their new plant at Sawtry, which allows them to work out of hours and expand their facilities."
Wedge Group Galvanizing is the largest hot dip galvanizing organisation in the UK with a history dating back over 150 years. With 14 plants strategically placed across the country, they offer a truly national galvanizing service.
