Got an old mobile that has seen better days? Pitch it skywards in one of the wackiest UK events to date*.
From angry celebs at the airport to perfectly-honed athletes... everyone is flinging their mobile phone about these days, so why not follow suit?
Staff from Derbyshire-based mobile phone retailer, BuyMobilePhones.net, are warming-up their throwing arm as they prepare to participate in the UK-leg of the Mobile Phone Throwing Championships, being held in August.
The unusual sport, which is now internationally renowned, started in Finland in the 2000 and has been growing in popularity ever since, with annual events now being held every year in Europe and the USA.
The UK Championships are held every August and are organised by 8th Day UK Ltd, a sport and adventure club, with this year's contest being held on Saturday 14 August at Battersea Park Athletics Track, London.
Not only is BuyMobilePhones.net supporting and attending the event, the company is also donating a prize for the overall champion of a New Xbox 360 250Gb, from it's range of free gifts.
Jamie Tomlinson, Marketing Manager, says: "It's a fun event to attend but there is an underlying issue which is that many people throw away their old mobile phones instead of sending them off to be recycled.
"By donating a fantastic prize we are hoping to encourage people to come along, either to participate or simply spectate, but to make sure they bring along their old mobile phones so that they can be recycled instead of wasting away in a drawer or ending up on a landfill site."
The event costs £5.00 to enter, however spectators do not have to pay. If you cannot attend the event but still wish to donate your old mobile phone to be recycled, please use the contact information below and arrangements will be made for you to post it to BuyMobilePhones.net.
*Mobile phones for throwing will be provided by 8th Day UK.
