Porter & Laker, logistics provider to the independent wine trade, has launched a new temperature-controlled groupage service from Bordeaux to the UK.
The service will run fortnightly, offering local collection direct from chateaux and transportation in smaller temperature controlled vehicles. These then return to JF Hillebrand's secure temperature-controlled consolidation warehouse in Bordeaux, before onward transportation to the UK destination.
The driver-accompanied service is operated by vehicles fitted with lockable barriers to ensure stability of cargo during the journey, and also features GPS tracking to increase service security.
Porter & Laker Director Chris Porter says: "French wine makers and the industry invest a lot of time, money and care in developing quality products. This level of investment should extend to supply chain to make sure that such quality is not compromised."

"When a consumer invests in a higher-value product, they are buying into the belief that their purchase has been treated in a way that ensures that their wine will be in the best possible condition."
Temperature fluctuations during transport can have an impact on the quality of a wine, but by transporting and warehousing it a correct and stable temperature , Porter & Laker's new service will deliver the product in optimum condition.
