Hermes has launched the most comprehensive international delivery solution on the market, enabling retailers seamless access to consumers in 20 European countries. It will also provide a simple and effective cross border returns service designed to overcome the reticence of international customers to buy from overseas websites due to concerns about returning unwanted items.*

The Hermes International service offers a fully tracked end-to-end solution that can be managed through a single point of integration. All transportation will be undertaken by Hermes Logistics’ own fleet throughout Europe delivering a secure, single carrier experience, with a number of final mile options including access to over 36,000 parcel shops and Hermes’ unique courier model.

The service will be supported by a dedicated international team based in Hamburg providing a single point of contact. There are also plans in place to expand the service beyond its current focus on EU countries to comprise a total of 35 countries, including Russia by 2015.

Carole Woodhead, CEO at Hermes UK, said: “Many of our customers are actively pursuing a strategy of international growth and we need to be able to support them with the best possible solution in the marketplace. Hermes International offers a unique combination of scale and local presence which enables us to take into consideration the cultural difference within the region and provide a service that works at both an international and domestic level.”

Tony Brown at Joe Browns, said: “The announcement of the international service from Hermes is good news for retailers like us who are looking to extend our reach overseas. The fact that it offers attractive rates, a fully tracked service and a single point of integration make the service extremely appealing, as does the access to 36,000 ParcelShops across the region.”

Hanjo Schneider, Member of the Executive Board at the Otto Group with responsibility for services and CEO of Hermes Europe GmbH, said: “By creating the largest consumer parcel network in Europe, we are providing clients and customers alike with the best possible conditions to participate in the on-going boom in e-commerce.”

*Research undertaken by Hermes UK last year found that 50% of people were fearful of difficulties with the returns process when buying from international websites.
