London, UK, 03 June 2011; Incomplete integration between proof of delivery (PoD) and associated systems is costing UK logistics firms millions in lost efficiency savings, according to independent research commissioned by mobile solution providers M-Netics, released today.
Nearly half (48%) of all UK logistics businesses admit their proof of delivery system is only partly integrated into associated technologies such as customer relationship management (CRM) or supply chain management (SCM). A further 38% admit that PoD is not integrated at all.
Yet 54% of respondents said that integration of systems to deliver a more comprehensive view of the business would realise the greatest improvements in efficiency. This is more than twice the amount of respondents who thought more automation would yield the most efficiency gains (23%).
Commenting on the findings, John Coon, managing director, M-Netics, said: "Our research shows that logistics firms believe they could make an average saving of 13% in the cost of delivery with more efficient processes. With even a small fleet of vehicles that soon runs into six figures when you account for fuel, human resources and support."
"Getting these systems to talk to each other is simple and straightforward, but each individual step - from sales order through production and dispatch to delivery - needs to be addressed in order to yield a comprehensive view of the business."
The recently launched M-Netics IM2 next generation proof of delivery solution delivers efficiency gains by integrating with invoicing and financial management systems, streamlining post-delivery processes. It also integrates with CRM systems to improve customer service by better job and delivery tracking.
