Rhys Davies Freight Logistics Opens New Depot in North East England

Rhys Davies Freight Logistics (RDFL) has announced the opening of its new depot in North East England. The new site in Newton Aycliffe is ideally located being only 20 miles from the industrial centre of Middlesbrough and close to the A1M motorway. This brings the total number of RDFL depots in the UK to nine.

RDFL is now ideally placed to provide a nationwide next-day delivery service for customers in the North East and is hoping to attract business from local industry, especially those in the food and chemical sectors in which it has particular expertise.

With over 450 staff and 170 vehicles RDFL has the capacity to handle consignments of varying sizes from a single parcel to a full load, although its key market is in the 1-15 pallet category. The company only uses its own vehicles rather than sub-contracting to third-party carriers as is the case with many other companies in the pallet network business, so customers can be assured that their goods are in safe hands throughout their journey - this is particularly important with food and hazardous products.

Driver training is a high priority at RDFL as Commercial Manager Gary Phillips explained. "In our opinion specialist training for drivers carrying hazardous goods is essential. We operate strictly in accordance with the ADR (Accord Dangereuse Routiers) the European directive on the carriage of hazardous goods and all of our drivers are trained to meet those exacting standards; we also have Responsible Care accreditation and BRC, which covers the safe handling of food."
