As its financial year draws to a close, Yorkshire-based central heating specialist and maintenance provider, Help-Link is celebrating a series of major successes.
In the year to September 2010, Help-Link has achieved its greatest ever turnover for a single month; increased its workforce to an all-time high; won prestigious contracts with two councils and expanded its geographical reach into two new regions.
This month Help-Link will exceed a monthly turnover of £1m for the first time in its 13-year history bringing the company's annual turnover to September 2010 to £9.2m - an increase from £8.6m in 2009.
The company has recently been awarded new long-term contracts for gas boiler service and general maintenance with Selby District Council and Richmondshire District Council. Both contracts are for three-and-a-half years.
To meet demand Help-Link has increased its workforce to 180 staff - the most the company has ever employed - making it one of the largest central heating specialists and reactive maintenance companies in the north of England.
Help-Link's managing director Mel Butler said: "It's been a phenomenal year for us. Like most companies, we saw a drop in business for 2008/09 as the recession took hold but it's good to see that confidence is being restored.
"We have also seen this confidence in the North West and Midlands following our expansion to these areas in the summer."
Contributing to Help-Link's growth has been the provision of additional services to Harrogate Borough Council following the collapse of social housing specialist Connaught plc earlier this month.
Help-Link already supplies boiler installation and maintenance services to Harrogate Borough Council but when Connaught plc went into administration, Harrogate Borough Council called upon Help-Link to fill the gap in services and provide emergency call out repairs and maintenance work.
Help-Link responded to the first call within an hour of the contract being awarded on September 8 and has since visited more than 300 houses in the Harrogate district that would have previously been covered by Connaught plc. Help-Link has now also employed ten former Connaught employees, including electricians and plumbers.
A further contributor to growth this year has been a significant increase in private boiler installations and during 2010 Help-Link has seen boiler sales grow dramatically. By the end of this month, the company will have fitted 409 boilers - a 29% increase on September 2009. Private boiler installations are also up year-on-year and Help-Link expects installations to top 2,000 by the end of the calendar year.
Commenting on the increase, Butler continued: "We are finding that many householders are looking at ways to make improvements to their home, rather than move house. In addition, people are now more aware of the efficiency and cost benefits a new boiler can bring."
