O’Donovan Waste Disposal, one of the UK’s leading construction waste specialists, stole centre stage at Transport for London’s (TfL) Construction Logistics and Cycle Safety (CLOCS) progress event at the Excel in London on the 26th Feb, with its unveiling of three innovative new truck designs. The purpose of the newly designed vehicles is to maximise road safety for vulnerable road users.

The new vehicles will be added to O’Donovan’s 85-strong fleet and are specified to provide even more protection for cyclists and pedestrians. The vehicles have factory-fitted innovative safety features, specified by O’Donovan to deliver significantly improved driver vision and unique low-profile safety guards.

Jacqueline O’Donovan, managing director at O’Donovan Waste Disposal, commented: “It was fabulous to see so many people really interested in our products at the CLOCS event. As traffic on the roads of London increases, it is only right that as an industry – and indeed as a city – we are doing our utmost to make sure that our roads are safe for everyone.”

Ian Wainwright, Head of Fleet and Freight at TfL, said: “HGVs, in their current designs, are disproportionately represented in cyclists fatalities but thankfully O'Donovan Waste Disposal’s innovation is a step towards safer roads. This demonstration of the industry’s appetite for increased fleet and freight road safety shows that by supporting other manufacturers and operators to follow suit, real progress can be made on London’s roads.”

The vehicles which will be added to O’Donovan’s fleet are a Volvo FL818 skip truck and a DAF FA LF220 skip loader. Both vehicles have the driving position lowered and the Volvo has a glazed nearside lower door to the increase drivers direct vision of other road users. Also featured is the MAN TGM BB skip loader, with revised suspension to lower the cab.
